Craig Bennie is a 68 year old who unlocked his home equity to help him win back his home in Reynella, South Australia.
He wanted to stay in his home because he was proud of the work he had done to the property. He had put his life savings into his home, including pulling the roof off and adding extensions to the front and back of the property. Above all, there are the lifelong memories that have been created in his home.
One of his favourite 'rooms' in his home is his shed, which he has filled with equipment and parts to help make his next creation. This is one reason why he is so attached to his home and why he'd feel lost if he had to move away.
Craig's most prized creation is his Macademia nutcracker, which took him a year to make and he says is a reflection of his personality. He uses it on the crops produced by the Macademia tree in his backyard and has so far cracked 5690 macademia nuts with his machine. After that, he turns them into macademia florentine slices and fudge that he sells at local markets.
None of this would have been possible for Craig without his access to home equity.
"It was a great day and if I could have done a backflip, I would have. It was a very good day and I got to thank Household Capital for giving me a reverse mortgage."
