A self-described ‘country girl at heart’, Kay enjoyed a fulfilling career leading travel groups across the globe, although it was Africa that stole her heart. She moved to the Central West of NSW, expecting to slowly ease into retirement. Instead, the COVID-19 pandemic cut her career short by two years, leaving her in a classic retirement dilemma: asset rich, but cash poor.
Kay had just built a new home but lacked the liquid funds to complete the final renovations she desperately wanted. As a single retiree making major financial choices, anxiety began to set in. Traditional banks weren't an option, but Kay refused to settle for less. She did some homework and then she saw a Household Capital advertorial on Channel 9. In Kay’s words: “I saw Barry's advertisement for Household Capital and I just said to myself, wow, that is me.”
From her very first phone call, Kay’s apprehension dissolved. “The service put me at ease straight away,” Kay told us. “It was like a well-oiled machine.”
By unlocking a portion of her home wealth using a reverse mortgage, Kay completed her home exactly the way she wanted, adding significant value to her property. The financial safety net proved invaluable when unexpected medical expenses arose later on; Household Capital sorted the necessary funds within a week, replacing panic with peace of mind.
Today, Kay’s confidence and independence are fully restored. She has the freedom to travel overseas to visit her daughter and live life entirely on her own terms. “It completely changed my life,” Kay told us. “It gave me my freedom and happiness back.”
