Deanne Stewart joined Aware Super (the new name for First State Super) as Chief Executive Officer in 2018. Deanne has led Aware Super’s drive to be a ‘force for good’ through its responsible ownership philosophy and focus on providing its members with strong investment returns and helpful guidance and advice for their future.

In the past two years Aware Super has grown to become one of the largest industry funds in Australia. In that time, Deanne has overseen the fund’s strategic re-brand, it’s successful merger with VicSuper and WA Super, the integration of Aware Super’s financial planning business, and the refresh of the organisation’s strategy and employee values.

Deanne is passionate in her belief that a strong culture and clearly defined purpose drives business success. A champion of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, in 2019 Deanne was also honoured as a Workplace Gender Equality Agency Pay Equity Ambassador.

An experienced financial services industry leader, Deanne was previously Chief Executive Officer of MetLife Australia. She has also held senior roles within BT Financial Group, Merrill Lynch Investment Management in New York, and McKinsey and Company in London.

Raised in Bathurst in country NSW, Deanne holds an MBA from the Yale School of Management as a Fulbright Scholar and she is a graduate from the University of NSW with a degree in Commerce (Finance and Marketing).
