Peter Harris AO is an economist with extensive experience in Australian policy, public service and business. Most recently, Peter was Chairman of the Productivity Commission and instrumental in the research and recommendations in reports such as “The Housing Decisions of Older Australians” (2015), “Competition in the Australian Financial System” (2018) and “Superannuation: Assessing Efficiency and Competitiveness” (2018).
Prior to that, Peter served as Senior Private Secretary to then Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke, in senior positions in the Commonwealth Department of Transport and later as Vice President in the Ansett/Air NZ group. He has also served as Secretary of state and federal public service departments including the Victorian Departments of Sustainability and Environment, Primary Industry and Public Transport, and the Commonwealth Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.
Peter trained as an economist at Queensland University, graduating in 1975.
